Another Beautiful Family Gathering!🌼🍃🕊💞
This time it was my Dad's 95th Birthday Celebration!🎉
It was mostly a surprise to him. He had no clue I was in town....his younger brother (83 years old) and his wife also surprised him, plus tons of famiy and friends.
The mood was very festive on the beautiful rooftop lounge in North Bethesda. We had a great Ethiopian Caterer ( CherCher from Bethesda) and the food was delicious!
My Dad took it all in stride and loved every minute of it!
I stayed at my brother's place in Washington DC and enjoyed the Opera at The Kennedy Center...Orthello; several of my favorite museums, lunches and dinners with friends.
I had a beautiful time with my two youngest nephews...when they were younger it would be lunch and a movie at iPic, but now that they are 15 years old....it's dinner and a movie at iPic! They still enjoy the "Ninjas" serving them as they watch the movie.
I happened to visit the Holocaust Museum with one of my younger nephews (a school project) and WoW...it was a sad reality of the human condition. I was moved with pure sadness for the victims, survivors and even for the ones who had only evil in their hearts.
A trip to Poland is in my future.
It was great to be back in the DMV area!

And Just Like That...Summer is Over!🌼🍃🐞
What a wonderful summer this has been!!!
I was so busy, living, loving, laughing and just being... that I totally forgot to write about it.
Back in July, I volunteered at the Art and Craft booth for Vacation Bible School. One solid week of fun with the neighborhood kids.
We made giraffes, lion masks, ate ice cream, sang songs and sooo much fun!
There were lunches, dinners and lots of little parties with a bunch of wonderful new friends.
It is awesome to have a great beach fairly close during the hot summer months.
Now it's time to get serious about planning my Dad's 95th Birthday party for next month!
I expect that it will be pure fun and joy with friends and family.

To my great JOY and SURPRISE....my second act is spectacularly better than my first!!!
Sure, I had the dream job..which didn't feel a day like work...because I absolutely loved what I did.....It still came with anxieties, deadlines, and a host of other external issues I had no control over (life), but it was the absolute best job!
I traveled a lot....Morocco, Ethiopia, a large portion of Europe (lived in Italy for several months), the Caribbean....you name it...I have been there. More travel plans are the horizon too.
I even snagged an invite to the wedding of the nephew of the King of Morocco! That was just sooo awesome!
There were some sadness and disappointments too...a mostly bad marriage, two miscarriages, two brain surgeries, divorce, no longer able to work.
It's amazing to me that it was the sadness and disappointments that made me want to be better, happier, more authentic.
Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that I have decided to look beyond the imperfections.
As I write this I realize even more how blessed I have been....the first act was AWESOME and by any measure, I could have been satisfied with it alone, even with the sad times...but I have been doubly blessed with an even more awesome second act!!
My life is just beautiful, and just PURE AWESOMENESS now!
What ever, you are going through right now, DO NOT give up.....your BETTER is coming!
"You have to choose to be better when disappointments and adversities strike. It wont happen like magic either. ..you have to commit and work hard at it...but the results are beautiful as you evolve and grow."
Be deliberate as you go about living your best life.

Family👨👩👧👧....🎊Celebrations🎉
While Southern California was dealing with earthquakes a few weeks ago (family and friends are ok and I haven't read of any deaths), the Brown clan was gathering in Florida for the first wedding among the nieces and nephews! My oldest nephew is now a husband!💑
Family came from all over the world including Southern California (got first hand stories about the earthquakes), to share in the joyful occasion!
What fun it was seeing everyone catching up on life and recalling fun old memories, while creating new ones.
All families have their ups and downs , the chronic complainers, the bad sheep, the loud ones...but in the end they are the best!
Love and cherish your family...even the ones who are hardest to love!

The Pleasures Of Gardening🌼🙏🍃 🦋🐞🥀🌷🕸🐜🐝
As we usher in spring, gardening is big on my mind.👨🌾 🐞
This year, I bought succulents and plants that can withstand a lot of direct sunlight☀️. Yes, it's true, I have only a "patio garden" with tons of direct sun....and it's glorious!!!☀️
It was a lot of fun searching for just the right plants.
Gardening is such an awesome responsibility to be the caretaker of beautiful flowers and plants. It's also a wonderful way to release stress and think clearly about anything.
This morning, we had a wicked thunderstorm with heavy winds⛈🌬....and I bolted out of bed to check if the plants were ok...and they were!!! Delicate but strong! Then I relaxed with a hot beverage as it rained buckets outside!🌧
Everyday as I walk up and down my steps, the beauty of the plants always lighten my steps...Having my morning beverage on the patio is down right enjoyable especially with so much beautiful flowers around.
Try it....you may just be pleasantly surprised!

Volunteering...🕊
Volunteering can soothe your soul and fill your life with joy!
Helping someone else and not thinking of yourself is the best medicine for growth and health.
I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore. I work on myself to be better daily...more kind, more loving, more forgiving and volunteering!
I recently resumed volunteering. This time for an International Medical Missionary Group. The group provide an array of medical services to people in underserved communities locally and internationally.
Dedicated doctors, nurses, dentists and other healthcare professionals volunteer their time and skills to thousands of people in each community. They take all the equipment, medicines and try to link with a local hospital if there is one. In the case of Ghana, there was none....so the longterm project is to build a hospital in that region of Ghana.
I am not a medical professional but I do know how to raise money.... for supplies, housing and other expenses.
And also, coordinate logistics.
Our next trip is in April to Haiti. We will have about 30 healthcare providers for this trip.
Towards the end of the year we will have a fundraising gala for building the hospital in Ghana.
Also, in the fall we are planning a huge health expo locally.
I am dedicating this year to service...I have been sooo blessed with health, joy and happiness that I am filled with gratitude and praise!
